Even though it’s been months since we took the CPTM class, we still talk about it and use things we learned from it. Each lesson provides practical industry knowledge and Lesson 5 did not disappoint. The whole CPTM class was so well done that it seemed like the information just integrated into our daily lives without much effort.
As the year winds down, we’ve been taking a look at some larger projects for 2018 and are seeing some similarities between our methods of offering custom learning solutions and the Training Industry’s “Training Process Framework”.
We don’t just offer a canned solution, we take a look at the adminstration of the project, the how the content will be delivered and managed, who our best contractors are to place in a situation and how well versed they are in the right mode of technology for delivery.
In Lesson 5, the Training Industry’s “Training Process Framework” outlines the four major steps for optimizing your training project. Sounds a lot like what we’ve been doing and what we will continue to do for projects large and small throughout 2018!
There are 4 steps that can be modified for your unique project:
These are the systems used to create and deliver your training. This could be your LMS, the tools you use to create the content and the delivery platforms you use to deliver the training.
This is the actual transfer of material. How you teach your staff, where you do it (online? in person?), who delivers it and how feedback is collected. This can even include the classroom facilities and how well prepared your instructor is.
It’s not just about the content you put out there, but how you manage it, where you store it, how it’s curated, or how it’s designed. If you’ve done a proper needs assessment, your learning programs will have much more success. Periodically, you should refresh your content so it’s still relevant, or get rid of old, out-of-date information.
This may seem like the easy part, but there’s a lot more involved in administration than just running classes. This includes the strategic planning process, vendor management, finance and billing, testing, assessments and feedback, and even marketing and communicating what you are trying to accomplish to your management team.
It’s a great framework to keep in mind when you are planning learning projects, large or small!
