Artificial Intelligence for Learning and Development: An AI Resource Guide for L&D Professionals

This image was created using Microsoft Copilot, which in turn is powered by OpenAI’s DALL-E technology.

For professionals responsible for the creation and management of content for learning and development, the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) tools can be a significant boost to efficiency and performance. Instructional designers can use generative AI tools to enhance the development, delivery, and even evaluation of in-person and e-learning programs.

This article has been created to catalog some of the most frequently-used AI tools for L&D professionals. We offer this list without any specific endorsements, and with the understanding that vendor(s) may charge fees for the services listed here.

Prompt Engineering: Getting More From AI Tools

There is no “one size fits all” experience with generative AI tools. The results you experience—and the value you can create—are based in part on how well you learn to take advantage of the technology.

This is where prompt engineering becomes an important part of your skills. By improving your skills, you can better guide AI models to create the results you desire—making the content produced more appropriate and useful.

There are many AI prompt engineering tutorials available on YouTube; an introductory course, “Generative AI: Prompt Engineering Basics,” is also available here on Coursera at no cost.
