AXIOM extends a huge CONGRATULATIONS to our very own Pan Mass riders, Peter and Bruce! Big shout out to all the riders of this challenging ride for a great cause.
Both Peter and Bruce finished the ride with great memories, more than $9,000 total (with donations still coming in) and maybe a few sore muscles!
From Peter:
“The Pan Mass Challenge 2016 was a huge success! I raised more than $4,500 and it’s still coming in. Great weather and unbelievable support throughout.
All the training, all the fundraising… that’s the hard part. The ride itself is the candy!
My favorite parts were seeing the people at 5am cheering us on from the roadside, the bagpipers and steel drummers on Cherry St and my wife Beth waving a sign in Onset a few miles from the end of the first day. I’d say the hardest part and really the best part of the ride is pulling into a water stop or at the finish line and seeing the pictures of all the children effected by cancer lining the road as you ride by.
It is heart wrenching and heartwarming at the same time. Knowing that raising awareness and money WILL help make a difference keeps me going! I carry a bag my Mom used to carry to remind me how much she cared for the children of the world. It’s a Unicef bag with children holding hands around the world. I am part of a team called Team TJ that raises funds to support Pediatric Low-Grade Astrocytoma Brain Tumor research. I have met TJ and he is an amazing little boy, full of energy and life, the way a little boy should be!”
And from Bruce, a first time rider:
“The Pan Mass Challenge was as rewarding as it was challenging. I will remember my first PMC ride for many years to come. My wife Sue and her friend Melanie supported me the entire ride, taking pictures, videos and meeting me in route with in-laws. I really appreciate how hard Sue and Melanie worked to support me.
The marching bands, balloons, cowbells, and campers cheering along the route were enough to make me sign up again next year.
Sue, Melanie and her parents enjoyed the ride so much they have already committed to supporting the ride again next year, too. The highlights include going over the Bourne Bridge at sunrise and under the Sagamore Bridge, finally making it to the Provincetown finish line with some energy left, thinking the long training rides paid off.”
Peter raised $4,500 and Bruce came in at $4,300. Both still have donations coming in so we know those totals will grow. Donations are accepted until October 1, so please consider donating.
Thank you and congratulations again! AXIOM will be supporting you in the Pan Mass Challenge next year, too!
