If You’re Human, You’re Learning

We found this great eBook through LinkedIn called “Creating a Culture of Learning in 6 Steps”. It resonated with us and we found ourselves drawing parallels to our own experiences, our CPTM class, and industry standards we’re accustomed to.

As we all know, “you learn something new every day”! Humans are wired to learn and grow and it happens all the time. Even if we aren’t consciously thinking about what we’re learning, we still are.

“The role of learning is to maximize the potential of your organization by maximizing the potential of all the people in it,” writes Britt Andreatta, PhD, author of “Creating a Culture of Learning in 6 Steps”.

Creating a culture in your workplace of learning can help in many ways. It can affect your bottom line, which as we learned in CPTM class, is essential. Strategically aligning yourself with business goals makes learning a necessity, not just a ‘nice to have’.

Creating this type of culture is essential to achieving business goals can help with productivity, creativity, employee retention, innovation and a willingness to learn new skills.

Here are the 6 steps recommended in the eBook:

  1. Honor the ever-present nature of learning
  2. Value learning as a path to mastery
  3. Make learning easily accessible
  4. Use Blended Learning to Maximize Options
  5. Teach managers how to coach
  6. Evaluate performance based on learning

Using any of the above steps is a great way to promote your new learning culture in your job. Remind people that even chatting with a co-worker, asking a question to a mentor figure, or listening to upper management talk about business goals are forms of learning. We learn socially, and it happens continuously. Translating that into a learning platform will make your workplace a place where creativity and success grow.
